Reality television star Phyna and skit maker Carter Efe emerged victorious in the celebrity boxing bouts at Balmoral Promotions’ “Chaos in the Ring” event held in Lagos.
Phyna, whose real name is Josephina Otabor, defeated Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing in a four-round contest at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, on Thursday night.
The bout, which was the first female celebrity boxing contest organised under the “Chaos in the Ring” series, ended in the fourth round after Phyna knocked Nkechi Blessing to the canvas and the actress was unable to beat the referee’s count.
Phyna had relied on movement and speed during the earlier rounds before landing the decisive punch in the final round. She later said her strategy was to conserve energy and wait for her opponent to tire before attempting to finish the fight.
The victory earned Phyna ₦50 million, a championship belt and a new car, according to reports. She subsequently challenged actress Etinosa Idemudia to another celebrity boxing bout, with Etinosa, who was present at the event, accepting the challenge.
Carter Efe defeats Speed Darlington
In the other major celebrity bout, Carter Efe defeated rapper Speed Darlington in a four-round contest.
Carter Efe dominated the fight and secured a technical knockout after Speed Darlington stopped responding during the bout. The victory extended Efe’s unbeaten record in the “Chaos in the Ring” celebrity boxing series.
Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, had previously defeated singer Portable by unanimous decision at Balmoral Hall in May.
The fight against Speed Darlington followed a tense build-up between the two entertainers. They exchanged threats during the pre-fight press conference, while their confrontation escalated when Speed Darlington kicked a birthday cake presented to Efe. Security personnel intervened to separate them.
The event also featured a championship contest between Nigerian boxer Godday “Zodsolo” Appah and Ghanaian Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah.
Gyimah defeated Appah by unanimous decision to claim the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship, according to reports.
The “Chaos in the Ring” event was held as part of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations and featured a combination of professional boxing and celebrity bouts. The card was broadcast on SuperSport and DAZN.
