Nigeria at 66: Sokoto PDP candidate calls for unity, peace

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Abubakar Abdullahi Sokoto, has called on Nigerians to promote unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Abdullahi, in a statement commemorating the anniversary, described Nigeria’s independence as an important milestone and urged citizens to reflect on the country’s journey while renewing their commitment to national unity and development.

He called on Nigerians to put aside ethnic, religious and political differences and work together to build a peaceful and prosperous nation.

The PDP candidate also urged citizens to uphold democratic values and contribute positively to the development of their communities and the country.

His appeal comes amid renewed calls from political, religious and community leaders for greater unity and peaceful coexistence as Nigeria marks 66 years of independence. Sokoto State leaders have similarly urged residents to strengthen cooperation and support efforts to maintain peace in the state.

As the country approaches the 2027 general elections, Abdullahi urged political actors and their supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and respect the rights of other citizens.

He congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the anniversary and expressed hope for greater stability, development and prosperity across the country.
