The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a truck carrying a large consignment of military uniforms and illicit drugs in the Surulere area of the state, leading to the arrest of three suspects in a major security operation.
According to the police, officers acting on credible intelligence stopped the truck during a routine operation and discovered 47 sacks containing military uniforms alongside 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs concealed within the vehicle.
The command said the interception was part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal circulation of security apparel and combat drug-related crimes across Lagos. The suspects were immediately taken into custody for interrogation, while the recovered items were seized as exhibits.
Police authorities expressed concern over the unauthorized possession and movement of military uniforms, noting that such materials could be used by criminal elements to impersonate security personnel and carry out unlawful activities. The command described the development as a serious security threat that required swift action.
Preliminary investigations are underway to determine the source of the uniforms, their intended destination, and whether the suspects are linked to a wider criminal network involved in the trafficking of restricted security equipment and narcotics.
A senior police official familiar with the operation said investigators are also working to establish the exact nature of the seized drugs and identify all individuals connected to the shipment.
“The recovery of such a large quantity of military uniforms is a matter of serious concern. Criminals often exploit security apparel to deceive members of the public and evade law enforcement. We are committed to unraveling the network behind this operation,” the official stated.
The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding residents and maintaining public security, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
The suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations, while the police continue efforts to track down other individuals believed to be connected to the intercepted consignment.
The latest seizure highlights ongoing concerns over the illegal circulation of military gear and prohibited substances, as security agencies intensify operations aimed at disrupting criminal networks operating within and beyond Lagos State.
