President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described Nigerian youths as the country’s most valuable asset, highlighting their technological skills, creativity and capacity to drive economic growth in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
The President made the remarks while speaking on the importance of youth development and empowerment, stressing that Nigeria’s future prosperity depends largely on how effectively it harnesses the talents and potential of its young population.
According to Tinubu, Nigerian youths have continued to demonstrate exceptional adaptability in the digital age, excelling in technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and other emerging sectors that are shaping the global economy. He noted that their energy and ingenuity position the country for greater competitiveness on the international stage.
“Youths are Nigeria’s most important asset,” the President stated, emphasizing that the country’s demographic advantage can become a major driver of economic transformation if adequately supported through education, skills development and access to opportunities.
Tinubu said his administration remains committed to creating an enabling environment that allows young Nigerians to thrive, particularly in technology-driven industries. He stressed the need to equip youths with the necessary tools and resources to participate effectively in the global digital economy.
The President noted that Nigeria’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation and technology is largely due to the contributions of young people who continue to develop solutions in sectors such as financial technology, software development, artificial intelligence and digital services.
He further highlighted the importance of investing in education and vocational training to prepare the next generation for future challenges and opportunities. According to him, strengthening human capital development remains central to the government’s economic agenda.
Tinubu also encouraged private sector stakeholders and development partners to collaborate with the government in expanding opportunities for young Nigerians. He said such partnerships would help unlock the immense potential of the country’s youth population and accelerate national development.
Nigeria has one of the largest youth populations in the world, with millions of young people contributing to various sectors of the economy. Experts have repeatedly identified the country’s youthful demographic profile as a strategic advantage capable of driving innovation, productivity and sustainable growth.
The President’s comments come amid ongoing efforts by the government to promote digital innovation, entrepreneurship and skills acquisition programmes aimed at increasing youth participation in economic activities.
Observers say that with adequate investment in education, technology and job creation, Nigeria’s youthful population could play a pivotal role in transforming the country’s economic fortunes and strengthening its position in the global marketplace.
