Tems says she wouldn’t date Nigerian male celebrities, describes them as ‘brothers’

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has said she would not consider dating Nigerian male celebrities, explaining that she sees many of them as “brothers” and part of her extended “family.”

Speaking during a recent interview, the award-winning artiste said her close relationships with colleagues in Nigeria’s entertainment industry have made it difficult for her to view them as potential romantic partners.

According to Tems, her interactions with many Nigerian male celebrities have fostered a familial bond rather than romantic interest, leading her to rule out the possibility of dating within the circle.

The singer’s remarks have since generated reactions on social media, with fans offering varying opinions on her perspective. While some praised her for maintaining clear personal boundaries, others viewed the comments as a reflection of the close-knit nature of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Tems, one of Africa’s most successful contemporary music stars, has enjoyed global acclaim through chart-topping releases and collaborations with international artists. She has also earned multiple Grammy Awards, further cementing her status as one of Nigeria’s leading musical exports.

As of the time of this report, the singer had not issued any further clarification regarding the comments, which continue to attract attention online.
