Pastor Adeboye defends Tinubu, says President has played his part

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against growing criticism over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, saying the President has done his part in addressing the country’s insecurity challenges.

Adeboye made the remarks while speaking during a church programme, where he addressed concerns over the persistent threat of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes affecting different parts of the country.

The cleric acknowledged that insecurity remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges but cautioned against placing the entire blame on President Tinubu. According to him, the fight against terrorism and other security threats requires the collective efforts of government, security agencies and citizens.

“President Tinubu has done his bit,” Adeboye said, urging Nigerians to complement the government’s efforts by remaining vigilant, supporting security agencies with credible intelligence and continuing to pray for the peace and stability of the nation.

His comments come amid heightened public concern over the country’s security situation, following a series of attacks by armed groups in several states. In recent weeks, communities across parts of Nigeria have continued to grapple with incidents of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, prompting renewed calls for stronger security measures.

Adeboye, who had earlier expressed concern that “terrorism has reached my doorstep,” reiterated that the security threat has spread beyond areas traditionally affected by insurgency, underscoring the need for urgent and sustained action to protect lives and property.

While defending the President, the respected cleric stressed that addressing insecurity cannot be achieved by the government alone. He called on citizens to play their part by cooperating with law enforcement agencies, remaining security conscious and promoting unity in their communities.

The RCCG leader also emphasised the importance of spiritual support, encouraging Nigerians to continue praying for the country and its leaders as efforts continue to restore peace and stability.

His remarks have generated mixed reactions, with some Nigerians agreeing that the security crisis is a long-standing challenge requiring collective responsibility, while others maintain that the government must intensify its efforts to curb the rising wave of violence across the country.

Security remains one of the key issues confronting the Tinubu administration, alongside economic reforms and efforts to address inflation and unemployment. The Federal Government has repeatedly pledged to strengthen the nation’s security architecture through improved intelligence gathering, enhanced military operations and increased collaboration among security agencies.

As the debate over Nigeria’s security challenges continues, Adeboye’s comments add a prominent voice to the national conversation, highlighting both the complexity of the crisis and the shared responsibility required to achieve lasting peace and security.
