The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade I, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the award of the contract for the construction of the Oyo Circular Road, describing the project as a major infrastructural intervention that will stimulate economic growth and improve the lives of residents.
In a statement issued through his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the monarch expressed appreciation to the President for approving the road project, which stretches from Ijawaya–Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC)–Sabo–Ilora to Akinmorin in Oyo Federal Constituency.
The Alaafin noted that the poor condition of roads in Oyo metropolis had, for decades, hindered economic activities and caused significant hardship for residents, farmers, traders and commuters. He said the approval of the circular road demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure deficits in the ancient town.
According to the monarch, the project is expected to improve connectivity within Oyo metropolis, reduce travel time, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce to markets and attract new investments to the area.
He also said the road would enhance access to healthcare facilities by enabling faster movement for emergency services, particularly for vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and the elderly. In addition, he noted that improved road infrastructure would reduce vehicle maintenance costs, improve road safety and strengthen links between Oyo and neighbouring communities.
Oba Owoade described the project as consistent with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying it would create jobs, expand economic opportunities and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
The monarch further expressed gratitude to the President for responding to requests he had earlier made for improved infrastructure in Oyo during a recent visit, where he appealed for urgent federal intervention to address the city’s developmental needs.
He also acknowledged the contributions of prominent indigenes of Oyo, including Idris Adegboyega, Wasiu Adebisi and the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, for their support toward the development of the ancient city.
The approval of the Oyo Circular Road forms part of a broader package of federal road projects recently approved by the Tinubu administration across several states, aimed at improving transportation infrastructure, enhancing regional connectivity and supporting economic development.
