The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has issued a public notice prohibiting activities it considers contrary to Sharia law, especially during festive periods.
In a statement dated December 31, 2025, the Commission warned against “reckless movement in vehicles during weddings or Sallah celebrations” and “physical interaction between men and women in cars, motorcycles, or public gatherings.” It also cautioned against “private conversations between men and women under the guise of chatting, particularly in ways not approved by Sharia.”
The directive comes from the office of State Commander Dr. Muhammad Yawudi Kale, with approval from the Commission Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar. The Hisbah urged parents and the community to help enforce these rules, stressing that the measures aim “to safeguard the moral upbringing of children.”
The notice is part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to regulate behaviour and uphold Sharia principles in public life, particularly during celebrations and other social events.
