APC shifts congress dates, extends e-registration nationwide

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revised its 2026 schedule, announcing the postponement of its congress dates and an extension of the ongoing membership e-registration exercise nationwide.

The party’s National Working Committee made the announcement, citing the need to ensure comprehensive participation and proper organization of the congresses across all levels.

The extension of the e-registration exercise is aimed at allowing more Nigerians to register as party members through the digital platform, which the APC has been using to modernize its membership database and expand its base.

By shifting the congress dates, the ruling party appears to be giving itself additional time to complete the registration process and ensure that all eligible members are captured before the crucial party elections.

The congresses are critical events in the APC’s internal calendar, as they determine leadership at ward, local government, state, and national levels, shaping the party’s direction and power structures.

The decision to extend the e-registration period suggests that the party may have encountered challenges in achieving its targeted membership numbers or ensuring adequate coverage across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

APC officials are expected to announce the new dates for the congresses and provide details on the duration of the extended registration period in subsequent communications.

The postponement could also allow the party more time to resolve any internal disputes or reconcile aggrieved members before the congresses take place.

Political analysts view the extension as a strategic move to strengthen the party’s organizational capacity ahead of future electoral contests, including the 2027 general elections.

Party members and stakeholders have been urged to take advantage of the extended registration window to update their membership status and participate fully in the democratic processes within the APC.
