Court grants Nollywood star Angela Okorie N5m bail over cyberstalking charges

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted Nollywood actress Angela Okorie bail in the sum of N5 million over alleged cyberstalking charges brought against her.

The ruling allows the controversial actress to regain her freedom while the case proceeds through the judicial process.

Angela Okorie, known for her outspoken personality and active presence on social media, was arraigned before the Federal High Court on cyberstalking-related offenses, though specific details of the allegations have not been fully disclosed.

The court, in granting bail, would have imposed conditions alongside the N5 million bail sum, which typically include requirements such as providing sureties, surrendering travel documents, or regular appearances in court.

Cyberstalking charges in Nigeria fall under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, which criminalizes the use of electronic communications to harass, intimidate, or threaten individuals.

The offense carries serious penalties, including potential imprisonment, making the charges against the actress a significant legal matter.

Angela Okorie has been involved in several public controversies on social media in recent years, often engaging in heated exchanges with fellow celebrities and public figures.

The actress’s legal troubles highlight the growing enforcement of cybercrime laws in Nigeria, as authorities increasingly prosecute individuals for online misconduct, harassment, and defamation.

With bail granted, Okorie is expected to meet the court’s conditions and continue her defense against the charges while remaining free pending the conclusion of the trial.

The case is expected to continue in the Federal High Court, with further hearings scheduled to determine the merits of the cyberstalking allegations.
