The Deeper Life Bible Church has condemned what it calls the “unjust and unwarranted actions” of the Lagos State Government and its agencies, following the demolition of several of its properties.
In a statement released by its legal counsel, Nojim Tairu & Co, the church alleged that it has been “systematically targeted” by state agencies. “Our church has faced an alarming pattern of hostility… leading to undue hara§§ment, demolition thr+ats, and unwarranted restrictions,” the statement said.
The church cited multiple instances of demolition: its Yaba branch was pulled down by LAMATA, the Olorunishola branch by LASBCA, and its Lawanson church by the Surulere Local Government Area (SLGA). “These aggre§§ive actions not only violate the fundamental rights of our faith community but also set a d+ng£rous precedent that undermines religious freedom, property rights, and justice in Lagos State,” the church stated.
Despite ongoing court proceedings over the ownership of the Lawanson property, SLGA officials allegedly invaded and demolished the church building on May 26, 2025—just days after a meeting where the church had clarified that only state or federal governments can acquire land for public interest, not local councils.
The church revealed it had challenged SLGA in court earlier in 2024, after receiving a notice to vacate the Lawanson site for a planned market. The court later ordered that the church be restored to the property, pending a hearing.
“We refuse to be intimidated or silenced by unjust actions,” the church said. “We are prepared to pursue all necessary legal avenues to defend our rights.” Calling for justice, Deeper Life urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and relevant authorities to investigate the matter.
“We call upon concerned citizens, religious organisations, legal advocates, and the international faith community to stand in solidarity with us.”
