Elizade University has issued a stern warning to its 708 newly matriculated students against involvement in cultism, cybercrime, and other social vices.
The university administration emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards such activities, making it clear that any student found engaging in these prohibited acts will face severe consequences.
The warning was delivered during the matriculation ceremony for the fresh students, who are beginning their academic journey at the private institution.
University authorities highlighted cultism as a particularly dangerous menace that has plagued Nigerian campuses for decades, leading to violence, loss of lives, and disruption of academic activities.
In addition to cultism, the institution cautioned students against involvement in cybercrime, commonly known as “yahoo yahoo,” which has become increasingly prevalent among young Nigerians seeking quick wealth through fraudulent online activities.
The university also warned against other vices including examination malpractice, drug abuse, sexual misconduct, and any behavior that could tarnish the institution’s reputation or compromise students’ academic and moral development.
Elizade University’s firm stance reflects growing concerns among Nigerian tertiary institutions about maintaining discipline and moral standards on their campuses.
The zero-tolerance policy means that students found guilty of these offenses could face punishments ranging from suspension to outright expulsion, regardless of their academic performance.
The administration urged the new students to focus on their studies, embrace positive values, and make the most of the educational opportunities available to them.
The warning serves as a clear message that the university is committed to providing a safe, conducive learning environment free from criminal activities and social vices.
