FRSC mobile court convicts 35 motorists in Awka as Road Safety crackdown intensifies

The Federal Road Safety Corps has secured the conviction of 35 motorists in Awka following a mobile court sitting at the FRSC Anambra State Sector Command Headquarters, as part of intensified efforts to reduce road traffic crashes and fatalities across the state.

The mobile court session was presided over by Chief Magistrate Adaora N. Okoli, who heard cases involving offenders apprehended during special enforcement operations carried out by FRSC personnel within the command’s operational corridors. Of the 44 offenders arraigned before the court, 35 were convicted while nine were discharged and acquitted. A total of 72 traffic offences were recorded against the offenders, and no offender was sentenced to imprisonment.

Offences prosecuted included seatbelt violations, driver’s licence violations, speed limit device violations, overloading, tyre violations, vehicle licence violations, number plate violations, and other related traffic offences.

Sector Commander Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno reaffirmed the command’s commitment to strict enforcement of traffic laws, describing prosecution of offenders as a deterrent against reckless driving and violations that endanger lives. She urged motorists to always comply with traffic regulations, ensure their vehicles are properly documented, and adopt safe driving practices.

Adequate security was provided by armed personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring the mobile court proceedings were conducted in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere without any operational challenges.

The Anambra exercise is part of a broader national enforcement drive. Nationwide FRSC mobile court operations have so far led to the arraignment of over 1,276 offenders and the conviction of 1,105 violators, reflecting what the corps described as a deliberate shift toward firm, fair, and visible enforcement as a behavioural control tool.
