Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has ended a two-year deadlock by naming Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.

The announcement came on Friday through a statement released by the governor’s chief press secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, in Ibadan, the state’s capital.

The throne of the Alaafin had been unoccupied since the passing of Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who reigned from 1970 until his death in 2022.
