The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has opened talks with the Plateau State Governor, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, urging him to recontest as Governor in 2027.
The move was made by party stakeholders of the party in Jos at the weekend.
The party chieftains said as the 001 of the party in the state, no one is better positioned to lead Plateau in the coming elections than Governor Mutfwang who has demonstrated strong leadership and notable achievements since becoming Governor in 2023.
Describing Mutfwang as someone who brought a new era of leadership in the State, the stakeholders said the Governor is a political figure whose ideology, capacity and experience align with the APC’s mandate of Renewed Hope.
Recall the Mutfwang on January 2, 2025, officially decamped from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress.
“We want you to recontest for Governor in the 2027 governorship election”, Hon Peter Azi, former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly said.
He said only God can stop the desire of the party to give the governorship ticket to Mutfwang considering his track records and humility.
He said the Governor has boosted the economic potentials of the State, insisting that the State deserved a continuous leadership that is capable of managing its resources that has positioned it as a true industrial and investment hub.
“The State needs a sustainable fresh direction. The present administration has fully utilised the opportunities available to make Plateau live up to its status as one of Nigeria’s key economic corridors,” he added.
Commenting on the resolution of the stakeholders, a group under the aegis of Friends of Governor Mutfwang (FGM), lauded the move as ideological clarity and internal stability, while also praising the role the APC played in absorbing the Governor into the party.
FGM noted that Mutfwang performance in the last three years is unprecedented saying that his output underscored its growing influence and organic connection with the Plateau people.
“Governor Mutfwang has shown that it can mobilise organic followers through purposeful leadership. His growing fame is not accidental. It is a result of consistency and credibility.
“We will remain committed to the reelection of Governor Mutfwang. Our resolve is beyond party lines and affiliation. What matters to us is the quality of governance Mutfwang is building for the future and next generation”, the group said.
