In a surprise transfer twist, Kyle Walker has officially signed for Burnley from Manchester City in a £5 million deal, putting pen to paper on a contract that runs until 2026.
The 35-year-old England international returns to the Premier League after spending the latter half of last season on loan at AC Milan, where he made 14 appearances in Serie A. His exit from City had been widely anticipated after he was left out of their FIFA Club World Cup squad last year.
Walker will now reunite with Burnley’s manager Scott Parker, his former teammate from their days together at Tottenham Hotspur over a decade ago. The two developed a strong relationship during their time in North London, and that connection reportedly played a key role in the move.
“Kyle brings incredible experience, leadership, and a winning mentality,” Parker said in a statement. “We’re delighted to bring someone of his calibre to Burnley as we aim to solidify our position in the Premier League.”
Walker leaves Manchester City after seven trophy-laden seasons under Pep Guardiola, where he won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and the UEFA Champions League. Despite his age, he remained one of the fastest and most reliable right-backs in Europe and played a key role in England’s runs in recent major tournaments.
This signing signals Burnley’s intent to rebuild and stay competitive after a turbulent 2024/25 season. Walker’s arrival brings not only top-level experience but also leadership to a relatively young squad. His versatility in defense and ability to operate as a wing-back or in a back three could prove crucial in Parker’s tactical setup.
Walker is expected to join pre-season training next week and could make his Burnley debut in their upcoming friendly tour of Germany.
In a brief message posted on social media, Walker thanked City fans for their support over the years:
“Manchester will always be a big part of my life. I gave everything for the badge and leave with memories I’ll never forget. Now it’s time for a new challenge with Burnley, and I’m ready for it.”
As he begins this new chapter at Turf Moor, Burnley supporters will be hoping the veteran full-back can help inspire a resurgence—and maybe even spark dreams of European qualification.
