The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has described Hon. Desmond Elliott as a bridge builder and ardent promoter of peace and tolerance amongst his constituents, at the Mega musical concert held in Surulere on Friday.
CAN Chairman Surulere Chapter Super Apostle Dr. James Akingboye (JP) made the assertion while speaking with newsmen at the maiden edition of Mega Musical Concert, organized by the body in partnership with Hon. Desmond Elliott the Surulere constituency 1 representative at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Akingboye affirmed that the initiative of the lawmaker encouraged unity, which had eluded the body of Christ in Surulere for more than thirty years it had been in existence.
He added that when Christians team up to praise God, it opens door to miracles and unlimited blessings.
“We want to appreciate our Honourable Desmond Olusola Elliott who partnered with us as he had always supported us whenever we reach out to him.
“This is to ensure that the community of Christian bodies in Surulere come together to appreciate the goodness of God in our lives.
“Christians in Surulere have been in existence for more than thirty years without unity, but thank God for what He has done in our midst today, we are united in God.
“We have a bond now, we have understanding. So, the drive for this programme is unity, love and progress.
“We are appreciating God’s goodness in unity, by God’s grace we were able to gather the whole Church in Surulere to praise God.
“Knowing fully well that when you praise God there is deliverance, there is salvation and many more divine visitations.”
Corroborating the CAN Chairman the Matron of Surulere CAN Archbishop Mary Ajisafe the General Overseer of Peace Of God Prophetic and Apostolic Prophetic Ministry restates the importance of unity and its great impact in any given group.
“Unity is key and I am happy that for the first time, in the era of our new CAN Chairman Dr. James Akingboye we have it restored, because he is a good listener who often takes counsel for the progress of CAN, he carries everybody along across the divides.
“The power of praise to God is enormous as exemplified today and we are grateful.
“ I urge Nigerians especially Christians to be praying for this country and to always come together to pray and uphold all that needed to be upheld and to speak truth to the government at all times.”
The Vice Chairman Surulere Local Government Prince Adewale Oladimeji Muiz who was on ground as the face of the council at the concert also commended Elliott for always promoting harmonious co-existence.
“This is not the first time because he is somebody that believes in bringing the people together and showcase to the outside world that we are living in harmony.
“That is why there is cohesion and it is easy for us to bring the people together and evolve a more peaceful society.
“We use to say we don’t want Celestial to come separate, K&S , pentecostal to come separate, but under one body so that with one focus, we will know what we are doing and who we are doing it for.
“Like the Chief of Staff to Mr. President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiama have always canvassed for unity, this turnout is the result.”
Muiz also hinted that much public confidence should be reposed in the President Tinubu led administration, given the positive results orchestrated by its economic reforms so far.
“President Bola Ahmed Tibunu we know is a man of his word, he has been doing his best to turn the economy around and it is manifesting result.
“I urge Nigerians to have the trust and believe in his capacity to deliver dividend of democracy.”
Hon. Desmond Elliott also disclosed to newsmen that the initiative was meant to further enhance societal harmony.
“In this particular area we did a very serious anti drug campaign and we can’t just leave the area vacuum.
“We need to put together here the people of Surulere and beyond to come and worship God.
“We do not only provide the platform for physical upliftment but also for spiritual upliftment. To say that we are there for them to represent both physically and spiritually.
“Our major goal is to herald co-existence, if you noticed this combines various denominations in Christendom, the Celestial, Cherubim and Seraphim, the Pentecostal, Bethel, Catholic, ECWA everybody here because we are all one.
“The Muslims are here, it shows peaceful coexistence, we were able to promote that, this is what Nigeria is about, where all of us come together under one roof to worship God, embrace peaceful co-existence amongst one another.”
Elliott also urged holders of political offices to make effort to ensure grassroots development.
“My only hope is that every appointed and elected people will do their best in representing the constituents, we should not only look at the top but we at the grassroots need do our best, to let people know that we are together.
“Let them feel the sense of belonging and we will enjoy at the end of the day. Let’s support ourselves, we should be there for the people and once we contribute our little quota beyond the sky is our limit.
Adeyinka Alaseyori the popular gospel artiste who eventually held the teaming audience spellbound with her sonorous voice and scintillating delivery, hinted that the secret of survival in gospel music remains God almighty, while charging upcoming ones to always put God first above everything.
Evangelist Eroomi Akintunde a spirit filled gospel artiste who also ministered at the concert in pure worship session, counselled Christians to concentrate more in their relationship with God.
“Do not allow fame, wealth,connection and all to severe your relationship with God and the holy spirit.
“Stay with God at all times, He alone is the major source of attraction that you see outside here, when you follow Him always you can never miss it.”
