Nyesom Wike knocks Rotimi Amaechi

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has taken a swipe at former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, saying his former ally’s recent comments are driven by a thirst for political power—not physical hunger.

Wike’s reaction follows remarks made by Amaechi at his 60th birthday celebration in Abuja, where the former Rivers State governor declared that “we are all hungry,” and suggested that the opposition could remove President Bola Tinubu from office.

“If you are not hungry, I am,” Amaechi said. “For us the opposition, if you want us to remove the man in power, we can remove him.”

He went on to reference his activism as a student, recalling protests against military leaders Ibrahim Babangida and Muhammadu Buhari, and how student solidarity once transcended regional divides.

“As students, we organized Tai Solarin’s protest against Babangida. We shut down ABU, UNN, UNILAG and others. There was no North or South, just unity. But today, the minds of young people have been poisoned—they can’t even liberate themselves,” Amaechi said.

In a sharp rebuttal, Wike dismissed Amaechi’s comments as politically motivated, stating: “Amaechi is not hungry for food. He is hungry for power.”
