Speaker’s Game enhances cooperation amongst Lagos State’s Workforce – Orekoya

The Lagos State House of Assembly has declared the commencement of the 2025 Speaker’s Game, tagged “Unity Edition,” a sporting event that span October till early November.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, Organising Committee, Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, the Assembly described the Speaker’s Game as a flagship initiative that promotes friendship, fitness, and teamwork across the state’s Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs).

The annual sporting fiesta is aimed at strengthening camaraderie among the state’s workforce and celebrating ten years of impactful leadership by the Speaker, Rt. (Hon) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Orekoya noted that since its inception in 2020, the Speaker’s Game has evolved into a unifying platform for staff within the legislative and executive arms, fostering stronger institutional cooperation.

He revealed that the 2025 edition, billed to hold between October and November 2025 at the Assembly Complex, will feature 32 male football teams and 16 female football teams, as well as volleyball, tug of war, table tennis, snooker, ayo olopon, draught, ludo, PlayStation contests, and other side attractions.

According to him, this year’s theme — “Unity Edition” — underscores the peace and collaboration currently enjoyed within the Legislative Arm of the Lagos State Government.

“The 2025 Speaker’s Game will bring together talented sports lovers from selected MDAs. We have planned several improvements to make this edition even more successful than previous ones,” Orekoya said.

He added that the event will also serve as a platform for empowerment through the distribution of ‘Ounje Obasa’, while promoting healthy living, gender equity, and the spirit of sportsmanship among public servants.

“The aim is to use sports as a unifying factor among stakeholders of the House of Assembly, to foster social relationships, promote gender inclusion, and create an unforgettable experience that reminds participants of the resilience needed to overcome challenges,” he stated.

Orekoya further emphasized that over the years, the Speaker’s Game has become more than just a sporting competition, but a symbol of unity, leadership, and shared purpose, aligning with the Assembly’s vision of making Lagos not only the Centre of Excellence but also a model of institutional cooperation and human capital development.
