Atiku congratulates Arsenal on EPL title win, links club’s success to Nigeria’s future

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Arsenal F.C. on winning the 2025/2026 English Premier League title, describing the club’s triumph as a lesson in patience, discipline, and long-term planning.

Arsenal secured their first league title in 22 years on Tuesday night after rivals Manchester City F.C. were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth, mathematically confirming the North London club as champions with one game remaining in the season.

In a statement issued through his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku praised Arsenal’s rebuilding process under manager Mikel Arteta, noting that the club’s return to the top of English football did not happen overnight.

According to the former presidential candidate, the club’s success was the result of years of strategic planning, consistency, and faith in a long-term vision despite setbacks along the way.

Atiku compared Arsenal’s resurgence to the kind of reforms and institutional stability he believes Nigeria requires, arguing that sustainable progress in governance, like football success, demands patience, structure, and commitment rather than short-term solutions.

He emphasized the importance of youth development, institutional strength, and economic planning, saying those principles remain central to his political and economic philosophy for Nigeria.

The former vice president also referenced Arsenal’s large Nigerian fan base, describing the loyalty and patience of supporters over the years as reflective of the resilience of Nigerians.

Using the football milestone to project a broader political message ahead of the 2027 elections, Atiku urged citizens to remain hopeful about the country’s future.

He stated that Arsenal’s title victory demonstrates that persistence and belief can eventually produce results, adding that Nigerians should continue to believe in the possibility of national renewal through effective leadership and unity.

Atiku further wished Arsenal success in the upcoming UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain F.C. scheduled for May 30 in Budapest, expressing confidence that millions of Nigerian fans would be supporting the club in its pursuit of a historic double.
