Residents of Gaza have observed a subdued and painful Eid celebration, as ongoing conflict, economic hardship, and widespread shortages of essential goods overshadowed what is traditionally a period of joy, family gatherings, and feasting.
Across the territory, reports indicate that many families were unable to celebrate in the usual manner due to severe scarcity of basic commodities, including sacrificial animals, food items, and Eid-specific treats such as biscuits and sweets. Prices of available goods have reportedly surged beyond the reach of many households, further deepening the hardship.
For many residents, the festive atmosphere typically associated with Eid was replaced by grief, displacement, and uncertainty, as the impact of continued hostilities and humanitarian pressures persist across the enclave.
Humanitarian observers note that the situation reflects a broader collapse in normal economic and social life, with supply chains disrupted and essential goods increasingly difficult to obtain. The scarcity has left many families prioritising survival needs over celebration.
Eid, which is traditionally marked by communal prayers, charity, and shared meals, has instead become for many in Gaza a moment of reflection under difficult circumstances, as the humanitarian crisis in the region continues to unfold.
