Tension erupted on Tuesday at the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat as aggrieved party members staged a protest over the outcome of the recent primary elections for Agege Constituencies.
The protesters, who gathered at the party secretariat, expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the primaries, alleging irregularities in the selection process. They demanded what they described as fairness, transparency, and justice in the handling of the election results.
Chanting slogans and carrying placards, the demonstrators called on the party leadership to intervene and review the disputed outcomes, insisting that the process did not reflect the will of party members in the affected constituencies.
Security presence was reportedly heightened around the secretariat to maintain order and prevent the situation from escalating.
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has yet to issue an official response to the protest and the allegations raised by the aggrieved members.
Party primaries in Nigeria often generate internal disputes, with stakeholders frequently calling for stronger mechanisms to address grievances and ensure internal democracy within political parties.
The situation remains calm but tense as stakeholders await possible intervention from party leadership.
