The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has confirmed that veteran Nollywood actor Benedict Johnson is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital and is expected to undergo surgery for an undisclosed health condition.
The development was confirmed by the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Abubakar Yakubu, following growing public concern over a viral video that showed the actor undergoing a medical examination, reportedly an MRI scan. According to the guild, Johnson’s condition requires surgical intervention, and the organisation has pledged its full support to ensure he receives the necessary treatment.
Speaking on the actor’s health situation, Yakubu said the guild is fully aware of Johnson’s medical challenges and is working closely to assist him through the process. He noted that the AGN remains committed to supporting its members during difficult times and ensuring that Johnson undergoes the required procedure successfully.
Although details of the ailment have not been disclosed, reports indicate that the actor has been battling a serious health challenge in recent weeks, prompting concerns among colleagues, fans and members of the Nigerian film industry.
Johnson is a respected figure in Nollywood and is widely recognised for his contributions to the growth of the Nigerian film industry. An alumnus of Abia State University, he rose to prominence through appearances in some of Nollywood’s pioneering productions, including Living in Bondage and Stolen Bible. Before venturing into acting, he reportedly worked as a recording artist during the late 1980s.
News of his hospitalisation has triggered an outpouring of prayers and goodwill messages from fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry, many of whom have expressed hopes for his speedy recovery.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Johnson nor his family has released an official statement on his condition, while the AGN continues to monitor his health and coordinate support efforts ahead of the planned surgery.
