ADO-EKITI, EKITI STATE In a decisive demonstration of proactive and intelligence driven policing, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South West Geopolitical Zone and ICT, DIG Adegoke Fayoade, mni, embarked on an extensive security oversight tour across Ekiti State during the governorship election, traversing critical border communities and strategic flashpoints to ensure a peaceful, credible and violence free electoral process.

The high powered security assessment took the DIG through more than fifteen communities across the state, including several border towns and key transit corridors linking Ekiti State with neighbouring Kwara and Kogi States. Among the locations visited were communities along the Omuo Ekiti axis and other border settlements considered vital to election security due to their strategic interstate access routes and expansive forest corridors.

During the tour, he interacted with police personnel on election duty, community leaders, electoral stakeholders and residents, while monitoring compliance with electoral security guidelines. The DIG also visited Ado North and several other strategic locations where personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies had been deployed to safeguard voters, electoral officials and sensitive election materials.

Addressing officers during the exercise, DIG Fayoade stressed the importance of professionalism, neutrality and vigilance throughout the electoral process. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring that no individual or group would be allowed to undermine the democratic process through violence, intimidation or any form of criminal activity.

The South West Deputy inspector General of police moved from one location to another throughout the election period, personally supervising operations, evaluating security arrangements and ensuring adequate deployment of personnel to vulnerable communities, polling centres and border areas.

His presence across the state significantly boosted the morale of officers on election duty while reassuring residents of the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting lives, property and the integrity of the electoral process.

The extensive monitoring and security coordination efforts yielded positive results as the governorship election was conducted peacefully across Ekiti State without any major security breach. Residents, electoral officials, election observers and stakeholders commended the professionalism displayed by security personnel and the effective coordination of election security operations under the supervision of DIG Fayoade.

At the conclusion of the exercise, the DIG expressed satisfaction with the conduct of security personnel and the level of cooperation received from residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders. He noted that the peaceful atmosphere witnessed throughout the state was a clear testament to the effectiveness of proactive policing, intelligence led operations and inter agency collaboration.

According to him, the successful conduct of the election further demonstrates the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force to provide a secure environment for democratic governance while maintaining law and order across the South West region.
