NDLEA seizes 12,724kg of illicit drugs, arrests 1,107 suspects in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the seizure of 12,724 kilograms of illicit drugs and the arrest of 1,107 suspected drug traffickers and dealers over the past year, describing the achievements as a major blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the state.

The figures were disclosed by the Kaduna State Commander of the NDLEA during a review of the command’s activities, highlighting the agency’s intensified efforts to curb the production, distribution and abuse of illicit substances across the state.

According to the command, the recovered drugs included cannabis, cocaine, heroin, tramadol, methamphetamine and other psychotropic substances. The agency said its sustained enforcement operations targeted drug supply chains, resulting in the dismantling of several drug joints and the disruption of criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade.

The NDLEA also reported significant progress in prosecuting drug-related offences, with dozens of convictions secured and numerous suspects charged to court during the period. In addition to enforcement activities, the command intensified its drug demand reduction initiatives by providing counselling and rehabilitation services for individuals battling drug dependence while conducting public sensitisation campaigns across communities, schools and other institutions.

The commander stressed that the fight against drug abuse and trafficking requires collective action, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies on suspected drug-related activities.

He also acknowledged the support of the Kaduna State Government, traditional rulers, sister security agencies, non-governmental organisations, the media and members of the public, noting that their collaboration has contributed significantly to the agency’s successes.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against drug traffickers while expanding preventive education and rehabilitation programmes aimed at reducing substance abuse and improving public safety across Kaduna State.
