President Bola Tinubu on Monday presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he administered the oath of office to newly appointed commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the National Population Commission (NPC).
The swearing-in ceremony, held before the commencement of the FEC meeting, marked another step in the administration’s efforts to strengthen key federal institutions responsible for fiscal management, revenue allocation and population administration.
The newly inaugurated commissioners are expected to assume their constitutional responsibilities immediately, contributing to the operations of their respective commissions.
The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission plays a critical role in Nigeria’s fiscal framework. The commission is responsible for monitoring revenue accruals into the Federation Account, reviewing the revenue allocation formula among the three tiers of government and advising the government on matters relating to remuneration for public office holders.
Similarly, the National Population Commission is tasked with managing the country’s demographic data, conducting population and housing censuses, registering births and deaths, and providing reliable statistics for national planning and policy formulation.
Following the inauguration, President Tinubu proceeded to chair the Federal Executive Council meeting, where ministers and other senior government officials gathered to deliberate on key national issues and consider policy proposals affecting governance, infrastructure, the economy and public service delivery.
The FEC, Nigeria’s highest executive decision-making body, regularly reviews memoranda submitted by ministries, departments and agencies before approving major government policies, projects and contracts.
Although details of the council’s deliberations were not immediately available, the meeting was expected to address a range of issues relating to the implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including infrastructure development, economic reforms, social investment programmes and other matters of national importance.
The inauguration of the new commissioners comes as the Federal Government continues to fill vacancies in strategic institutions to enhance administrative efficiency and improve the delivery of public services.
Observers say the appointments are expected to strengthen the capacity of both the RMAFC and the NPC, particularly as the government pursues reforms aimed at improving fiscal transparency, revenue generation and data-driven national planning.
