Two killed, one injured as truck crashes into stationary vehicle on Ogun expressway

Two people have lost their lives while another sustained injuries after a Volvo truck rammed into a stationary vehicle along the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway in Ogun State.

The fatal crash occurred on Monday at about 12:30 p.m. near the Ilara area of the expressway. According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident involved a Volvo truck and a stationary vehicle that had reportedly stopped on the roadside.

The spokesperson for the Ogun FRSC Sector Command, Florence Okpe, said preliminary investigations indicated that the truck driver lost control and crashed into the parked vehicle, resulting in the fatal collision. The impact claimed the lives of two occupants of the stationary vehicle, while another victim sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The injured victim was rescued by FRSC personnel and taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at a morgue after being evacuated from the scene.

Following the accident, FRSC officials and other emergency responders cleared the wreckage to restore the free flow of traffic along the busy highway.

Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Akinwumi Fasakin, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists, particularly truck drivers, to exercise greater caution on the roads. He also advised drivers to observe speed limits, maintain safe following distances and ensure that broken-down or stationary vehicles are properly marked with warning signs to prevent similar tragedies.

Road crashes involving articulated vehicles remain a major concern on Nigerian highways, with the FRSC continuing to advocate stricter adherence to traffic regulations and improved vehicle maintenance to reduce fatalities and injuries.
