Nasarawa Police nab man for allegedly beating wife to death

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, for allegedly beating his 20-year-old wife to death following a domestic dispute in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred in Angwan Yahaya community, where the suspect allegedly assaulted his wife, resulting in fatal injuries. Police said the matter was reported to the Agyaragu Police Division at about 12:30 p.m., prompting officers to respond and arrest the suspect.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Superintendent of Police Ramhan Nansel, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked his wife after an argument over food preparation. The victim was rushed to a medical facility but was confirmed dead by a doctor.

Police said the suspect confessed to the alleged assault during interrogation and expressed remorse over the incident. He is currently in custody while detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) continue their investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, condemned the incident and reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice. He directed that the case be thoroughly investigated and assured the public that the suspect would be prosecuted if found culpable.

The police also urged residents to seek peaceful means of resolving domestic disputes and encouraged victims of domestic violence to report cases promptly to law enforcement agencies or relevant support organisations before situations escalate.

The incident has renewed concerns over domestic violence in Nigeria, with advocacy groups continuing to call for stronger public awareness, timely intervention and stricter enforcement of laws aimed at protecting victims of abuse.
