Rescued Oyo teachers, pupils arrive state secretariat for handover to Makinde

The teachers and pupils recently rescued from captivity following their abduction in Oyo State have arrived at the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, where they are set to be formally handed over to Governor Seyi Makinde.

The victims were escorted to the Government House by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), who led the security team involved in the successful rescue operation.

The handover marks another significant milestone in the efforts to reunite the victims with the state government and their families after they spent 56 days in captivity.

The rescued pupils and teachers are expected to be officially received by Governor Makinde, alongside senior government officials, security chiefs, and other stakeholders who participated in the rescue mission.

The formal ceremony is expected to provide an opportunity for the governor to commend the security agencies for their role in securing the victims’ freedom and to brief the public on the rescue operation.

The victims were freed following a coordinated operation involving the military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies after weeks of intensive intelligence gathering and search efforts.

Their release brought relief to families, residents of Oyo State, and education stakeholders who had anxiously awaited positive news since the abduction.

Following the handover, the rescued pupils and teachers are expected to undergo medical examinations and psychological assessments to evaluate their physical and emotional well-being after their prolonged ordeal.

State officials have also indicated that counselling and rehabilitation support will be provided to help the victims recover from the trauma of their captivity before they are reunited with their families.

The Oyo State Government has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of the rescued victims and has pledged to strengthen security around schools and other public institutions to prevent similar incidents.

The abduction, which attracted nationwide attention, renewed concerns over the safety of educational institutions and prompted intensified security operations across the state.

Authorities have maintained that efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes will continue through improved intelligence gathering, stronger collaboration among security agencies, and increased community participation.

As the rescued teachers and pupils prepare to reunite with their loved ones, the successful operation is being viewed as a significant boost to ongoing efforts to address insecurity and restore confidence in the protection of schools across Oyo State.
