Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has shared a personal story about how he gave his wife the first ₦100 million cheque he ever received, describing the gesture as an expression of his romantic nature and appreciation for her.
The award-winning actor made the revelation during a recent appearance on the Morayo Brown Show, where he was asked whether he lives up to the romantic image many people associate with him.
Responding with a smile, RMD said he considers himself “an incurable romantic,” adding that expressions of love have evolved over time.
“I’m an incurable romantic. These days it’s never about flowers and chocolates anymore; ladies like money now,” he joked.
He went on to recount what he described as one of the most memorable moments in his marriage, revealing that when he received the biggest cheque of his career worth ₦100 million, he immediately decided to give it to his wife.
According to the actor, his wife initially believed he wanted her to keep the money on behalf of their children. However, he clarified that the gift was intended solely for her.
“The first time I had the biggest cheque I’ve ever had in my life, I had like a ₦100 million cheque, so I said, ‘Give it to my wife.’ When she got it, she said, ‘You want me to keep it for your children?’ So I said, ‘No, keep it for yourself,'” RMD recalled.
The actor’s remarks drew applause from the show’s audience and have since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many praising the couple’s relationship and RMD’s candid reflection on love, generosity and marriage.
