Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, and former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola on Sunday met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, amid growing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The visit was disclosed by Governor Makinde in a post on his verified social media accounts, where he shared photographs of the meeting with the elder statesman.
According to Makinde, the discussions centred on “important national issues” and the country’s future. While the governor did not provide further details of the deliberations, the meeting has drawn public attention as political consultations intensify ahead of the next general election.
The meeting brought together prominent political figures from different political backgrounds. Fayemi, a former chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), and Oyinlola, a former governor of Osun State, joined Makinde in what observers have described as part of ongoing consultations among key political stakeholders.
Photographs released after the meeting showed the leaders in a cordial atmosphere at Obasanjo’s residence in Abeokuta.
Former President Obasanjo, who governed Nigeria between 1999 and 2007, has remained an influential voice in national affairs and frequently receives political leaders and public officials for consultations on issues affecting the country.
Although no official communiqué was issued after the meeting, it comes at a time when political parties and leading figures are stepping up engagements and strategic consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.
