Oloje-Ogidi community in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, was thrown into shock and fear on Friday following the gruesome discovery of the lifeless body of a female police officer who had earlier been abducted by unknown assailants.
The victim, a Woman Inspector (W/INSPR) and prosecutor attached to the Ogidi Police Division, was reportedly kidnapped on Thursday night in the Oloje area.
Credible police sources confirmed that her remains were found in a bush on Friday morning, indicating she may have been murdered shortly after her abduction.
Although details of the incident remain sketchy, preliminary findings suggest that the officer was forcefully taken away by her assailants before being killed.
Her death has triggered tension and fear in the Oloje and Ogidi communities, where residents have expressed growing concerns about the escalating wave of violent crimes in the state.
The discovery comes amid heightened security operations in Kwara North and South Senatorial Districts, where government forces, security agencies, and local vigilantes have intensified efforts to dislodge criminal elements.
In recent weeks, Kwara State has witnessed a disturbing rise in kidnappings, killings, and bandit attacks, forcing many residents to abandon their ancestral homes for safer areas.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Saturday for official comments were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages sent to her went unanswered.
Meanwhile, security operatives have reportedly launched a manhunt for the killers, while the incident has reignited calls for stronger security measures across Ilorin and its environs.
