NDLEA arrests businessman with 127 wraps of cocaine seizes meth, other narcotics

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its offensive against drug trafficking syndicates with a series of coordinated arrests and seizures across Nigeria, including the interception of a 52-year-old businessman who excreted 127 wraps of cocaine at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano.

Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, who runs boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, was apprehended upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941 on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

Acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives subjected him to a body scan, which confirmed he had ingested illicit drugs and concealed additional pellets in his private part.

A total of 58 wraps of cocaine were immediately recovered from his undergarments. Under excretion observation, Ejiofor passed an additional 69 wraps in seven excretions, bringing the total to 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms

In another major operation on October 9 and 10, NDLEA operatives intercepted three illicit drug consignments at a courier company in Lagos.

The first shipment, weighing 1.74 kg of methamphetamine, was hidden inside blocks of glass ceramics bound for the United Kingdom.

Two other consignments contained 114 grams and 168 grams of pentazocine and tramadol injections, and 48 grams of tramadol capsules disguised as Vitamin C tablets.

Additional attempts to export 2.6 kg of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol concealed in black soap tablets to Turkey, 169 grams of cocaine hidden in handbags destined for Australia, and 568 grams of Loud (a potent cannabis strain) packed in herbal containers headed for the UAE were also foiled.

At Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, NDLEA intercepted 27,510 pills of rohypnol concealed in alcoholic drink sachets destined for South Africa.

Following the arrest of a freight agent and a cab driver, a follow-up operation led to the arrest of 46-year-old Samuel Omoruyi, also known as “Yellow,” at Oyingbo Market, Lagos, on October 2.

On the same day, Italy-based businessman Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen was arrested for attempting to export 3,700 tramadol pills and 2,600 tapentadol tablets hidden in food items to Europe. Uyimwen confessed he was paid €945 to traffic the drugs.

In addition to the arrests and seizures, NDLEA commands across the country continued their intensive War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaigns, reaching schools, religious institutions, workplaces, and communities.

Educational sessions were held in Adamawa, Ebonyi, Katsina, Enugu, Niger, Kogi, Anambra, Rivers, Kano, and Osun States to educate young people on the dangers of drug abuse.

Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the operatives of MMIA, MAKIA, DOGI, Kano, Edo, Rivers, Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Osun Commands for their diligence and professionalism.

“The results of these operations show our sustained commitment to cutting off drug supply chains and dismantling trafficking networks. I urge all commands to maintain this momentum with professionalism and vigilance,” Marwa stated.
