Slain Oyo hotelier’s brother flees, alleges threats to life

Ayorinde, brother of slain Oyo hotelier, Olugbenga Owolabi, has raised the alarm over an alleged threat to his life.

He claimed that his family was forced to flee their house at Moniya, in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State shortly after some people killed his United States-based brother. Reported by Punch Newspaper

On December 23, 2022, the Oyo State Police Command apprehended three men who were allegedly responsible for the kidnapping and murder of the hotelier.

The brother of the deceased, in contrast, asserted that the arrest took place near his residence in Moniya. Speaking to newsmen in a Sunday interview, the 66-year-old man revealed that his family had fled their home in November of the previous year due to numerous threats.

He expressed, “Since my brother’s tragic killing, our lives have been plagued by constant threats. These threats extend to myself, my children, and anyone whose contact information was obtained during the ransom negotiations. Consequently, I had no choice but to abandon my house; my family is now scattered across different areas in Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State.”

He further disclosed that he was formerly a retired Director in the Federal Ministry of Education, Quality Control, Oyo State, and also engaged in farming and real estate activities. However, due to the persisting threats, he was unable to function freely and had to go into hiding, impacting his ability to carry out his professional work.
