NNPC Ltd holds workshop for Editors to deepen understanding of energy sector

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has organised a capacity-building workshop for members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) in Lagos, aimed at strengthening collaboration between the national oil company and the media while enhancing accurate reporting of Nigeria’s energy sector.

The workshop, held at the Legend Hotel Lagos Airport, brought together senior editors from media organisations across the country to engage with key officials of NNPC Ltd on developments within the oil and gas industry.

Speaking at the session, representatives of NNPC Ltd emphasised the importance of responsible and informed reporting on the petroleum sector, noting that the industry remains a critical pillar of Nigeria’s economy. Participants were taken through presentations highlighting the company’s ongoing reforms, operational priorities, and efforts to improve transparency and stakeholder engagement.

The engagement also provided editors with insights into the evolving structure of NNPC Ltd following its transformation into a commercially driven company under Nigeria’s petroleum industry reforms. The company stressed the need for sustained collaboration with the media to ensure that the public receives accurate and balanced information about developments in the sector.

Industry analysts note that such engagements are part of broader efforts by NNPC Ltd to strengthen communication with key stakeholders, including journalists and editors, as the company continues its corporate transition and strategic repositioning.

Editors who attended the workshop commended the initiative, describing it as a useful platform for deepening understanding of technical issues in the oil and gas industry and improving the quality of energy reporting in Nigeria.

The workshop also featured interactive sessions where editors raised questions on industry reforms, fuel supply dynamics, and ongoing investments aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s energy security.

The Nigerian Guild of Editors, the umbrella body of editors in Nigeria’s print, broadcast and digital media, regularly partners with institutions and organisations to promote professional development and enhance journalism practice in the country.
