Davido storms Osogbo as Adeleke intensifies re-election campaign ahead of 2026 poll

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, on Tuesday joined Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on the campaign trail as preparations intensify ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in the state.

The award-winning singer accompanied the governor during a large-scale mobilization meeting with transport union leaders, commercial motorcycle operators and youth supporters at the Imole House in Osogbo, where he openly endorsed his uncle’s bid for a second term in office.

Davido’s arrival sparked excitement among supporters, with hundreds of party loyalists and residents gathering to catch a glimpse of the music star as campaign activities turned into a carnival-like atmosphere.

Addressing the crowd, the singer urged residents to support Governor Adeleke’s re-election, insisting that the administration had delivered visible projects and improved governance across the state.

“My uncle has delivered for the people of Osun. I urge everyone to come out and mobilise support for him because we cannot afford to go backwards,” Davido told cheering supporters.

The singer’s involvement is expected to strengthen the governor’s grassroots appeal, especially among young voters and urban communities ahead of what political observers predict will be a fiercely contested election.

Governor Adeleke, while speaking at the gathering, highlighted several achievements of his administration, including road construction projects, payment of salary arrears, pension reforms and healthcare initiatives.

He also pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects across the state, describing them as evidence of his administration’s commitment to development and people-oriented governance.

“Our administration has remained focused on improving the lives of Osun people through infrastructure, workers’ welfare and social intervention programmes,” the governor said. “By the grace of God and the support of the people, our re-election is unstoppable.”

The governor further called on transport workers and residents to remain peaceful and resist political violence as the election season gathers momentum.

The August 2026 governorship election is expected to pit Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), which has continued to criticise the administration’s economic and fiscal policies.

Political analysts believe Davido’s active participation in the campaign could significantly boost voter mobilization efforts for the ruling party, particularly among first-time voters and the youth demographic.

Davido played a visible role during the 2022 governorship campaign that brought Adeleke to power, frequently appearing at rallies and using his social media influence to canvass support for the governor.

Meanwhile, security concerns have continued to shadow the political atmosphere in the state following recent allegations by the Osun State Government regarding an alleged attack targeting members of the governor’s family.

Despite the rising political tension, supporters of the governor expressed confidence that the Adeleke administration would secure another term based on what they described as its performance record over the past four years.
