The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded approximately 35 percent of polling unit results from the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election to its Election Result Viewing (IReV) portal, providing voters, political parties, observers, and other stakeholders with real-time access to the collation process.
The development comes as the electoral body continues the transmission of results from polling units across the state’s 16 local government areas following the conclusion of voting and counting exercises in many locations.
The IReV portal, introduced by INEC to enhance transparency and public confidence in the electoral process, allows citizens to view scanned copies of polling unit result sheets as they are uploaded by electoral officials. The platform has become a key component of Nigeria’s election management system, enabling independent verification of results before final declarations are made.
As of the latest update on Saturday, INEC indicated that about 35 percent of polling unit results had been successfully uploaded to the portal. Election observers noted that the uploads were progressing steadily, although the pace varied across different parts of the state due to factors such as internet connectivity and logistics.
The governorship election has attracted significant national attention, with major political parties seeking to secure control of the southwestern state. Voting was generally reported to have proceeded peacefully in most areas, although isolated incidents of delays and minor logistical challenges were observed at some polling units.
Political parties and election monitoring groups have continued to urge supporters to rely only on official channels for election updates and to avoid spreading unverified figures on social media. They also emphasized the importance of allowing INEC to complete the collation process without interference.
INEC officials reiterated that results uploaded to the IReV portal are intended to enhance transparency and do not replace the official collation and declaration process prescribed by law. The final outcome of the election will be determined through the established collation procedure, beginning from polling units to ward, local government, and state collation centres.
Election observers have praised the continued use of the IReV platform, describing it as an important tool for promoting accountability and reducing disputes over election results. They, however, called for sustained improvements in result transmission infrastructure to ensure faster uploads, particularly in rural communities with limited network coverage.
With more results expected to be uploaded in the coming hours, residents, political stakeholders, and members of the public are closely monitoring developments as the race to determine Ekiti State’s next governor enters a crucial stage.
INEC has advised citizens to follow updates through its official platforms and await the completion of collation before drawing conclusions on the outcome of the election.
