Akor Adams fires Sevilla closer to LaLiga safety with dramatic winner against Villarreal

Akor Adams produced a decisive late strike as Sevilla FC fought back from two goals down to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Villarreal CF in Wednesday night’s LaLiga clash at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

The comeback victory marked Sevilla’s third consecutive league win and significantly boosted the club’s hopes of avoiding relegation, lifting the Andalusian side into 10th place in the provisional standings with only two matches remaining this season.

Villarreal appeared firmly in control during the opening stages after racing into an early two-goal lead. Gerard Moreno opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a composed finish after being set up by Georges Mikautadze.

Just seven minutes later, Mikautadze doubled the advantage for the hosts after converting a delivery from Alberto Moleiro, leaving Sevilla facing the prospect of another damaging defeat.

However, the visitors responded strongly before halftime. Oso reduced the deficit in the 36th minute after connecting with a diagonal pass from Lucien Agoumé, before Kike Salas restored parity deep into stoppage time with a powerful half-volley.

The winning moment arrived in the 72nd minute following a high press initiated by Alexis Sánchez. Quick combination play involving Juanlu Sánchez and Djibril Sow created space for Adams, who fired past goalkeeper Arnau Tenas at the near post.

The goal was Adams’ 10th in LaLiga this season, capping an impressive debut campaign in Spanish football for the Nigerian forward.

Villarreal pushed aggressively for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Sevilla’s defence held firm. José Ángel Carmona produced a crucial goal-line clearance late in the match to deny Pau Navarro and preserve Sevilla’s advantage.

The defeat ended Villarreal’s six-match home winning streak, while Sevilla moved four points clear of the relegation zone on 43 points.

With Adams scoring in consecutive matches and confidence growing within the squad, Sevilla now head into their upcoming fixture against CA Osasuna with renewed optimism about securing their LaLiga status for another season.
