Afrobeats reaches football’s biggest stage as Rema joins FIFA World Cup 2026 anthem

FIFA has unveiled “Goals,” one of the official songs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup soundtrack, bringing together Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema, Thai rapper and BLACKPINK member LISA, and Brazilian pop singer Anitta in a cross-continental collaboration that reflects football’s increasingly global cultural reach.

Released as part of the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album, “Goals” blends Afrobeats percussion, Latin pop influences, and contemporary dance production in a multilingual anthem designed for the tournament set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026. An official music video accompanied the release on major streaming platforms this week.

The collaboration marks another milestone for Rema, whose rise from Benin City to global stardom has helped position Afrobeats as one of the world’s most commercially influential music genres. His inclusion in a FIFA World Cup soundtrack underscores the growing role Nigerian artists play as cultural ambassadors on international stages.

Over the past decade, Nigerian musicians including Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Tems have expanded Afrobeats into mainstream global pop culture through chart success, international collaborations, and major festival appearances. Industry analysts increasingly describe the genre as one of Nigeria’s strongest cultural exports, helping reshape perceptions of the country abroad.

FIFA has increasingly leaned into globally diverse collaborations for its tournament music. Previous World Cup songs and anthems have featured artists such as Shakira, Ricky Martin, and Jung Kook, reflecting the tournament’s effort to connect football with international pop culture audiences.

According to FIFA soundtrack announcements, “Goals” joins a broader lineup of songs being released ahead of the 2026 tournament, including tracks from artists across Latin America, the Middle East, North America, and the Caribbean.

For many Nigerian fans online, the release has been celebrated as another sign of Afrobeats’ global influence. Discussions across social media and music forums highlighted excitement about seeing a Nigerian artist featured prominently on one of football’s largest entertainment platforms.
