Nollywood actor Tobi Makinde has addressed speculation surrounding the absence of actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele at his wedding, dismissing claims of a fallout and attributing her absence to work commitments.
Makinde, who recently tied the knot in a ceremony attended by family, friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry, clarified the issue during an interview after social media users questioned why Akindele, his longtime mentor and colleague, was not present at the event.
According to the actor, Akindele was unable to attend because she was occupied with promotional activities for one of her film projects, making it impossible for her to be physically present at the wedding.
“There is no issue between us. She couldn’t make it because she was busy promoting her movie,” Makinde said, adding that the actress reached out to congratulate him and expressed her support despite her absence.
Makinde stressed that reports suggesting a strained relationship between them were unfounded, noting that Akindele has remained a significant figure in his career.
The actor rose to prominence through his role in Jenifa’s Diary, one of Nigeria’s most successful television series created and produced by Funke Akindele. He has frequently acknowledged the actress for mentoring him and providing opportunities that helped shape his career in the film industry.
Speculation about their relationship intensified after Akindele did not attend the wedding ceremony, prompting discussions on social media. However, Makinde urged fans not to read unnecessary meanings into her absence, insisting that their professional and personal relationship remains cordial.
Funke Akindele is currently involved in several film and television projects and has been actively promoting her latest productions across different platforms.
Makinde’s clarification has largely put to rest rumours of a rift between the two entertainers, with fans expressing relief that their longstanding relationship remains intact.
