Adeleke, Oyebamiji put politics aside at fidau prayer for APC scribe’s mother in Osun

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, on Saturday put aside their political differences as they attended the Fidau prayer held in honour of the late mother of the Osun APC Secretary, Kamoru Tajudeen Alao.

The event, held in Osogbo, drew prominent political figures from across party lines, reflecting a rare moment of unity despite the intense political rivalry ahead of the state’s forthcoming governorship election.

Governor Adeleke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Oyebamiji, who recently emerged as the APC’s candidate for the election, were seen exchanging greetings and participating in the Islamic prayer ceremony alongside other dignitaries.

Also in attendance were former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru; members of the Osun State Executive Council; traditional rulers; religious leaders; and party faithful.

The Fidau prayer was organised for the repose of the soul of Alhaja Aishat Alao, the mother of the Osun APC Secretary. Islamic clerics offered prayers for the deceased and urged the family to remain steadfast in faith.

The gathering provided an opportunity for political leaders from different parties to demonstrate solidarity with the bereaved family, with attendees emphasising that moments of grief should transcend political affiliations.

The public appearance of Adeleke and Oyebamiji comes at a time when political activities are intensifying in Osun ahead of the next governorship election. While both camps remain fierce political rivals, their presence at the religious event underscored the importance of empathy and communal support during periods of bereavement.

Although no political discussions were reported at the event, observers described the cordial interaction between the governor and the APC candidate as a reminder that political competition does not preclude mutual respect on matters of humanity.

The Fidau prayer concluded with special prayers for the late Alao, her family, peace in Osun State, and Nigeria as a whole.
