The Federal Government has announced six key requirements for Nigerians seeking to benefit from its newly launched consumer credit scheme for the purchase of smartphones, laptops and tablets.
The initiative, known as the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
The programme is designed to improve access to digital devices through affordable consumer credit while supporting digital inclusion and encouraging the patronage of locally assembled products.
Six requirements for applicants
According to details released for the pilot phase of the programme, applicants must meet the following requirements before submitting their applications:
1. State of residence
Applicants are required to indicate their current state of residence by selecting one of Nigeria’s 36 states or the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the application process.
2. Personal information
Applicants must provide basic personal details as part of the registration process. These include their full name, email address, phone number and other information required to verify their identity and facilitate communication regarding their application.
3. Employment or institutional details
The application requires information about the applicant’s occupation or institutional affiliation, including details of their employer, school or organisation where applicable. This information is used to assess eligibility for the credit facility.
4. Choice of device and intended use
Applicants must specify the type of digital device they wish to obtain whether a smartphone, laptop or tablet and explain how they intend to use it.
The available categories include learning and professional certifications, remote work, freelancing, software development, business expansion, content creation, school activities and other educational purposes. Applicants may select more than one option where applicable.
5. Consent to verification
Before submitting an application, individuals must confirm that the information they have provided is accurate. They are also required to consent to verification by CREDICORP and its partners and agree to be contacted regarding the status of their application.
6. Source of awareness
Applicants must indicate how they learned about the C.L.I.C.K.D. Programme. Available options include the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, social media, friends or family, schools, employers, Google Search or other sources.
How to apply
Interested Nigerians can apply through the official C.L.I.C.K.D. portal by visiting the programme’s application page, clicking the “I’m Interested” button and completing the online application form with the required information.
The Federal Government said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to expand access to digital technology, promote financial inclusion and equip Nigerians with the tools needed for education, innovation, entrepreneurship and participation in the digital economy.
The pilot phase of the programme will prioritise eligible applicants while encouraging the purchase of locally assembled digital devices, in line with the government’s objective of supporting local manufacturing and strengthening Nigeria’s technology ecosystem.
