Jeff Bezos in talks with consortium eyeing Liverpool stake

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has reportedly held discussions with an investment group interested in acquiring a stake in English Premier League club fresh speculation about potential changes to the club’s ownership structure.

According to reports, the talks centred on a possible investment in Liverpool through a consortium exploring opportunities to purchase a minority stake in the Merseyside club. While discussions are understood to be at an early stage, no agreement has been reached.

The development comes amid continued interest from global investors in top-flight English football clubs, whose commercial appeal and worldwide fan base have made them attractive assets for institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals.

Liverpool is currently owned by the years, FSG has overseen significant sporting and commercial growth, including Premier League and UEFA Champions League triumphs, while also expanding the club’s global brand.

In recent years, FSG has indicated that it is open to securing strategic investment to support Liverpool’s long-term growth, although it has consistently maintained that the club is not actively being sold outright.

The reported involvement of Bezos has reignited speculation over whether one of the world’s wealthiest individuals could eventually become involved in football club ownership.

Although Bezos has previously been linked with investments in major sports franchises, including reports of interest in the National Football League (NFL), he has yet to acquire a stake in a European football club.

Sources familiar with the discussions suggest that the investment group views Liverpool as one of the most valuable sporting brands in the world, citing its competitive success, strong commercial revenues and extensive international following.

Any transaction involving Liverpool would likely attract significant attention across the football industry, given the club’s stature and the increasing influx of private equity firms and billionaire investors into elite European football.

Financial analysts note that Premier League clubs continue to command high valuations due to lucrative broadcasting deals, sponsorship agreements and expanding global audiences.

Industry observers also point to growing investor interest in football as clubs seek additional capital to strengthen their competitive position, upgrade infrastructure and diversify revenue streams.

Neither Liverpool nor Fenway Sports Group has publicly confirmed the reported discussions involving Bezos or the investment consortium.

Likewise, representatives of Bezos have not commented on the reports.

Should any investment materialise, it would be subject to the Premier League’s ownership and directors’ tests, as well as other regulatory and financial approvals.

For now, the reported talks remain exploratory, with no indication that a formal agreement is imminent.

The developments nevertheless underscore Liverpool’s continued appeal to global investors and reflect the broader trend of increasing financial interest in leading European football clubs, where strategic investments have become an integral part of long-term growth and competitiveness.
