The family of a Nigerian woman, Christiana Nwosu, who reportedly died of cardiac arrest while visiting the United Kingdom, has launched a fundraising campaign to repatriate her remains to Nigeria for burial.
According to a GoFundMe appeal initiated on behalf of the family by Chijioke Metuka, Nwosu died on July 19, 2026, leaving her children and loved ones devastated by her sudden passing.
The family described the deceased as “a beacon of light, love and warmth,” saying her death has created an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who knew her.
In the appeal, the family said its greatest wish is to honour Nwosu’s memory by laying her to rest in her homeland, surrounded by her extended family and ancestral roots.
However, they noted that repatriating her remains from the UK to Nigeria would cost approximately £10,000, covering funeral director fees, specialist repatriation services, documentation, air freight, transportation, and burial expenses in Nigeria.
“We have set up this fund to support Izuchukwu and his family during this incredibly difficult time. Every single donation, no matter the size, will go directly towards covering these repatriation and funeral expenses to help ease the financial strain on the family,” the organisers said in the fundraising appeal.
The organisers also appealed to members of the public who are unable to make financial contributions to support the family by sharing the fundraising campaign and keeping them in their thoughts and prayers.
As of the latest update, the campaign had raised £7,941 towards its £10,000 target.
The case highlights the significant financial burden many families face when arranging the repatriation of loved ones who die abroad, with costs often running into thousands of pounds due to transportation, legal documentation and funeral arrangements.
