Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed reports alleging plans to substitute the party’s governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Engr. Suleiman Umar, describing the claims as false and unfounded.
In a statement issued on Monday, Atiku reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its candidate, insisting that there was no plan to alter the outcome of the ADC governorship primary or replace Umar as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 election.
The former vice president said the rumours were the handiwork of individuals seeking to sow discord within the party and distract it from its preparations for the forthcoming governorship election in Adamawa State.
According to Atiku, Engr. Suleiman Umar emerged through the party’s duly recognised process and continues to enjoy the full confidence and backing of the ADC leadership.
He urged party members, supporters and the public to disregard reports suggesting that a substitution was being contemplated, stressing that the party remained united and focused on strengthening its structures ahead of the election.
Atiku also called on ADC stakeholders in Adamawa to remain calm and avoid actions capable of undermining the party’s cohesion, assuring them that the leadership would continue to uphold internal democracy and transparency in all its decisions.
The clarification comes amid growing political activities in Adamawa and other states as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with speculation surrounding possible candidate substitutions in some contests.
The ADC has consistently maintained that its candidates will emerge through established democratic processes and has urged members to ignore misinformation capable of creating unnecessary divisions within the party.
