Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has paid an emotional tribute to his late mother, Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour, describing her as the source of his courage and one of his strongest supporters throughout his political journey.
Rhodes-Vivour, in a heartfelt message shared following her passing, recalled how his mother initially feared the risks associated with politics but eventually became one of his most steadfast supporters after embracing his vision for public service.
According to him, she taught him that fear should never stand in the way of pursuing what is right, a lesson that has continued to shape his approach to leadership and public life.
“My mother taught me to overcome fear,” he said, reflecting on the transformation that saw her move from being apprehensive about his political ambitions to actively encouraging and supporting his campaigns.
Rhodes-Vivour described his late mother as a woman of strength, compassion and unwavering faith whose guidance extended beyond family life to inspire his commitment to serving society.
He noted that despite the challenges and intense scrutiny that accompanied his political career, she remained a consistent source of encouragement, offering prayers, counsel and emotional support whenever he faced difficult moments.
The former governorship candidate said her unwavering belief in him strengthened his resolve to continue advocating for good governance and a better future for Lagos and Nigeria.
He also expressed gratitude for the values she instilled in him, including integrity, resilience, humility and service to humanity, saying those principles would remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Rhodes-Vivour extended appreciation to friends, supporters and well-wishers who have reached out to his family following his mother’s death, while praying for the peaceful repose of her soul.
