National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has declared that every lawful vote will count in the 2027 general elections, insisting that the will of the Nigerian people will prevail over any attempt at intimidation, violence or electoral manipulation.
Dickson made the remarks in a statement shared on his verified X account, where he expressed confidence that Nigerians would democratically resist efforts to undermine the electoral process.
According to him, politicians relying on the use of security agencies, armed thugs or other forms of coercion to influence election outcomes would not succeed.
“I want to assure you that every vote will count,” Dickson said. “There will be no room for violence, intimidation, or the deployment of security operatives and armed thugs against law-abiding citizens, as some people do.”
The former Bayelsa State governor maintained that the electorate’s decision must remain supreme, urging supporters of the NDC and Nigerians generally to remain vigilant and committed to protecting the integrity of the democratic process through lawful means.
He called on citizens to resist intimidation, oppression, inducements and all attempts to subvert the people’s mandate, stressing that the country’s democracy should reflect the genuine choice of voters.
Dickson also expressed confidence in his party’s ability to challenge what he described as “federal might,” claiming that his political camp had successfully done so in the past and would do so again ahead of the 2027 polls.
His comments come as political parties intensify preparations and realignments ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with electoral reforms, voter participation and election security expected to dominate public discourse in the months leading to the polls.
