Abia Governor steps in to fund Ngozi Nwosu’s medical treatment

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the first phase of funding for the medical treatment of veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu following her public appeal for financial assistance to undergo multiple surgeries.

The intervention was announced on Tuesday by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Okey Justice, popularly known as JMartins, in a post on X.

According to Justice, the governor approved the initial payment towards the actress’s medical expenses after learning of her health challenges.

“His Excellency @alexottiofr has just stepped in on the health issues of our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs. Ngozi Nwosu to approve the first part of her medical bills,” he wrote.

Justice expressed appreciation to Governor Otti for the intervention but noted that the approved funds cover only part of the amount required for Nwosu’s treatment. He appealed to well-meaning Nigerians, corporate organisations and members of the creative industry to continue supporting the actress financially.

“While we sincerely appreciate His Excellency, we still appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians to please support her in any way possible,” he added.

The intervention follows Nwosu’s emotional public appeal in which she disclosed that she had been hospitalised for several weeks and required about ₦30 million to undergo three life-saving surgeries. The veteran actress, who hails from Abia State, said she was seeking financial assistance to cover the cost of the procedures.

Ngozi Nwosu is one of Nollywood’s most celebrated actresses, with a career spanning several decades. She is widely known for her roles in television and film, including the popular sitcom Fuji House of Commotion, and has featured in more than 100 productions.

This is not the first time the actress has appealed for public support over health challenges. In 2013, she received financial assistance from the Lagos State Government and other well-wishers for treatment related to kidney and heart complications.

The latest gesture by the Abia State Government has been welcomed by members of the entertainment industry, who described it as a timely intervention while urging continued public support to enable Nwosu complete her treatment.
