The APC Progressive Local Government Chairmen’s Forum has announced plans to organise a mega rally in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections, in what is expected to be another major demonstration of grassroots backing for the president.
The planned rally, according to the forum, is intended to publicly endorse Tinubu as its preferred candidate for a second term and mobilise support for the continuation of his administration’s policies and programmes.
The development comes amid a series of endorsements from various groups within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the next presidential election. Earlier, the APC formally adopted Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election, while several party stakeholders, support groups and local government officials have also declared their backing for his re-election.
The forum said the proposed mega rally would bring together local government chairmen, party faithful, grassroots mobilisers and supporters from across the country to reaffirm their confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Organisers noted that the event would also serve as a platform to showcase the role of local government leaders in strengthening the APC’s grassroots structures ahead of the polls.
Supporters of the initiative argue that Tinubu’s economic reforms, infrastructure projects and governance policies justify a second term, while critics maintain that the administration must address persistent concerns over the cost of living, insecurity and other socio-economic challenges.
The planned endorsement rally adds to a growing list of political declarations in support of the president. In recent months, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Southern APC states chapter, APC stakeholders in several states, and other pro-Tinubu groups have similarly endorsed his re-election bid.
Although the 2027 general election is still months away, endorsements and mobilisation efforts by political parties and interest groups are expected to intensify as the election season approaches.
