Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, describing his support as rooted in shared Yoruba identity and regional pride rather than in any political deal or party affiliation.
Speaking after inspecting the ongoing reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ile-Ife–Ilesa expressway, Adeleke described his backing of Tinubu as “a moral and development-driven action in the best interest of Osun state and Yoruba people at large.” He called the president “our own son, father and leader” who deserved support “beyond political considerations.”
“I am the governor of the ancestral birthplace of Mr President. How can I have my own in the saddle and think twice before embracing him?” Adeleke said, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed. “I need no persuasion to act as I have declared repeatedly, our endorsement of Mr President.”
He added that he considered himself fortunate to witness a “son of the soil” occupy Nigeria’s highest office, noting that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was similarly positioned. Adeleke stressed that Osun, as Tinubu’s ancestral state, would not allow “selfish politicians” to undermine the president’s standing in the state, a reference widely understood to target APC figures such as former governor Gboyega Oyetola, Tinubu’s cousin.
